In this project, we consider situations where many persons are simultaneously injured in disaster such as earthquakes and train accidents, and propose an advanced electronic triage system for sensing physical condition of those injured persons and collecting their sensed data in ad-hoc wireless communication. The triage system presents dynamic change of injured persons' location and physical condition on monitors in real time. Our research aims to improve efficiency of rescue operations in disaster using the proposed advanced wireless communication technology.
This research project "Advanced Wireless Communication Technology for Efficient Rescue Operations" is selected as one of Core Research for Evolutional Science and Technology (CREST) type projects of Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) (From Oct. 2007 to March 2013). Prof. Higashino leads this project as Research Director in the research area of Advanced Integrated Sensing Technologies.
The project was shown on a nationwide broadcast in NHK morning news on Sept. 9, 2009. It was also appeared in more than 10 newspapers including Nikkei and Sankei Newspapers on Sept. 7, 2009.
